FORMER Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter and Detroit Pistons icon Chauncey Billups were part of the list of 13 people announced as inductees into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Carter, who was an eight-time All-Star and played 22 seasons in the NBA for Toronto, New Jersey, Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta, Orlando, Sacramento and Phoenix, retired in 2020.

Billups, the current coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, is a five-time All-Star who was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2004 following leading the Pistons to a championship.

Carter and Billups will be enshrined along with 11 others in a ceremony in August.

The brood announced Saturday also includes Los Angeles Lakers icon Jerry West. West was induced as a “contributor”, although he had been induced earlier in 1980 because of his accomplishments as a player.

Other players on Saturday’s roster include Seimone Augustus, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Dick Barnett and Michele Timms.

Charles Smith, Harley Redin, and Bo Ryan were announced as induced coaches along with pundit Doug Collins and Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon.

“Without a doubt, the accomplishments of the class of 2024 are a testament to unmatched excellence,” Hall of Fame president John Doleva said in a statement. (AFP/Z-3)
