Vilnius district municipality suffered a cyber attack – it is being investigated whether personal data was leaked

Under investigation for the leak of personal data

On Thursday, the municipality issued a statement in which it confirmed that a cyber attack was carried out in the Vilnius district municipality this week, which disrupted the operation of some information systems. The municipality is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and whether personal data was accessed.

“An attack was carried out on Monday against the data servers of the Vilnius district municipality administration. The availability of the municipal administration is and will be limited for some time.

Information about the incident was forwarded to the National Cyber ​​Security Center under the Ministry of National Defense and other responsible institutions were informed. The municipal administration is doing everything to resume normal activities as soon as possible”, commented Robertas Duchnevičius, Mayor of the Vilnius District Municipality.

On behalf of the mayor, a crisis management working group was established in the municipality, which is led by the director of administration, Vladislavas Kondratovičius.

“The activity of information systems is currently restricted due to data security. Individual systems are being restored. After finding out the extent of the violations, it will be clear what public services we will be able to provide in the usual way”, says V. Kondratovičius.

An investigation is currently being conducted into the possible leakage of personal data of employees and residents. The municipality cooperates with the State Data Protection Inspectorate, the information was transferred to the Chief Police Commissariat of Vilnius County.
