Vilnius Christmas tree – donated by the people of Vilnius: posed a threat to the residents of three plots

Vilnius planned the lighting of the main Christmas tree and the opening of all the “Christmas in the Capital 2023” events cycle symbolically – together with the winter coming according to the calendar.

At noon on December 1, the Christmas town will open on the Cathedral Square, in the afternoon the Christmas train will leave for the first trip, and in the evening the capital’s main Christmas tree will be lit.

All the secrets of the Vilnius Christmas tree are not fully revealed by its decorators and the Vilnius City Municipality. The only thing that is clear is that after more than a decade, the Cathedral Square will not have a structure decorated with spruce branches, but a natural spruce. It will be here until January 7th.

This year, many Lithuanian cities are building exactly such – natural – fir trees. Klaipėda maintains this idea, this year the port city will be decorated with a fir tree more than 10 meters high, donated by Klaipėda residents Loreta and Arūnas Benta. The owners planted a properly matured one in the corner of the plot in 2000.

From the outskirts of Vilnius

The Vilnius spruce is more than 16 meters high.

“The Christmas tree came to the Cathedral Square from the outskirts of Vilnius. A fir tree more than 16 meters high grew at the border of three plots of land and posed a threat to the safety of the owner of the plot where it grew and the neighbors. The owner gladly gave the Christmas tree to Vilnius,” says Vilnius City Municipality about where this Christmas tree came from.
