Vilnius Book Fair 2025: A Page-Turning Celebration of Literary Beauty

Lolita Varanavičienė, head of the publishing house “Tyto Alba” and one of the first organizers of the Vilnius Book Fair, remembered the growth of the fair, its first years and was happy that the event attracts new visitors, is constantly renewing itself, while remaining faithful to the usual forms of events loved by visitors – meetings with authors , discussion club, short chat program “Shorts”.

From an event whose original purpose was to sell books, the Vilnius Book Fair has become a huge cultural event, a festival where over 500 cultural events are held for visitors with various interests. She also presented organizational changes – the 25th Vilnius Book Fair will be organized by the Lithuanian Publishers Association, AGATA and the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Center LITEXPO.

“The music hall has become an integral part of the Vilnius Book Fair, and the future topic is relevant for both writers and music creators: we invite you to the fair with the slogan “Kukutis goes to the fair”, said Lolita Varanavičienė.

“Kukutis is a literary character and at the same time the author’s second-in-command, which Marcelijus Martinaitis told us about in “Kukutis ballades”. Kukutis is at the same time very cute and somehow (despite his strangeness) relatable. Perhaps Kukutis is not as important to those born and raised in free Lithuania as it is to me. Maybe some people don’t know him at all. However, this is not really a problem. It’s worth getting to know Kukučius, hearing the stories he tells and meeting him at the Book Fair,” said Aurim Švedas, a cultural historian and one of the members of the Fair’s organizing committee.

Gytis Vaškelis, head of the publishing center of the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, said that for him this theme is one of the most beautiful during the entire period of the Fair’s existence.

We hope that getting to know Kukučius will enrich everyone who came to the Vilnius Book Fair in 2025. Let this character, who asks questions and is not afraid to act unpredictably, who has the courage to question eternal truths and can say what he really thinks without hesitation, become an inspiration to everyone waiting for the 25th Vilnius Book Fair.

The 25th Vilnius Book Fair “Kukutis goes to the fair” will be held from February 27 to March 2, 2025 at the Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Center LITEXPO.
