MARSEILLE. Vilma Bobeck, 26, lost her mother in 2021.

Now the sailor is an Olympic silver medalist.

– I wish she could have seen this, says Vilma.

Vilma Bobeck becomes emotional in the TV interview after the Olympic silver together with Rebecca Netzler when the mother comes to speak.

She died of a brain tumor three and a half years ago. The tears come and later Vilma Bobeck elaborates:

– It is very difficult to do an Olympics without her. It’s a lot of work. But she is still here and I have everyone else here who supports and is there. Rebecca is an incredible support. I wish she could have seen this, says Vilma.

She continues:

– Out on the water, it’s all about sailing. But it’s hard not to experience the Olympics with her. She has been a great support for me throughout my career.

Persuaded by Rebecca

The rest of the family followed the Olympic drama on location off Marseille’s coastal strip.

– My older sister and my father are there. They mean an incredible amount to me, says Vilma.

Vilma has previously told us that she got the drive and the winning skull from her mother. In connection with her passing, she had no thoughts of continuing sailing, but a call from Rebecca rekindled the spark.

– I am very, very happy that I managed to persuade her, says Rebecca to Sportbladet.
