However, in the 54th minute, Villarreal increased their lead thanks to a goal from A. Sorloth. This forced Villarreal to make a change: in the 66th minute, F. Coquelin was replaced by A. Baena. Marseille continued to try to come back, but their efforts were in vain as Villarreal sealed the victory with a goal from J. Mosquera in the 86th minute. The match ended on a somewhat fiery note, with several players receiving yellow cards in the final minutes, including Villarreal’s A. Baena and J. Mosquera and Marseille’s G. Kondogbia and P. Lopez. Despite the fact that Marseille managed to come back thanks to a goal from J. Clauss in the last minute of the match, it was Villarreal who won with a score of 3:1.
