Antwerp fan Viktor Verhulst is taking big steps in his DJ career. Last spring he signed a contract with Dimitri Vegas’ label and this summer he already played at major events such as Tomorrowland and the famous club Ushuaïa in Ibiza. But the young DJ has even more in store: for the first time he is creating his own song.
Viktor is enthusiastic about his new project and announced in the podcast ‘Vik en Gert‘ that he has already started playing his own track during his sets. “I started playing it this weekend to drive the audience crazy,” says Viktor. He wants to introduce his audience to his new sound and is looking forward to the official release.
Father’s Confusion About Producing
Not everyone seems to immediately understand what producing a song entails. Gert Verhulst, father of Viktor, continues to be amazed by his son as a DJ. “There remains something that I don’t understand. You say, ‘I’m making a record.’ But I don’t hear you on it and I don’t see you on it,” Gert noted.
Viktor responded with a smile: “Yes, produce, hey, dad! You know how it works, right? When a singer makes a new song, he stops everything during his performance and tells the audience about the song. That’s how it is with me. in the set. I mix that record in.” With this, Viktor makes it clear that his approach as a DJ differs from that of a traditional artist, but that he wants to reach his audience in a unique way.
Viktor Verhulst: DJ Extraordinaire or Just a Fancier Jukebox?
Antwerp fan Viktor Verhulst is taking big steps in his DJ career. Last spring he signed a contract with Dimitri Vegas’ label and this summer he already played at major events such as Tomorrowland and the famous club Ushuaïa in Ibiza. But the young DJ has even more in store: for the first time he is creating his own song.
Ah, young Viktor! He’s living the dream, isn’t he? A DJ, a label deal, and now a new track. If only my dad could grasp the intricacies of DJing like Viktor seems to, I wouldn’t have to explain the difference between Spotify and a record player every Sunday at family dinner! Viktor, bless him, buoyantly announced during the ‘Vik en Gert’ podcast that he’s already debuting his own masterpiece in front of throngs of fans: “I started playing it this weekend to drive the audience crazy,” he proclaimed. Crazy indeed, but is it madness or musical genius? The line, my friends, is as fine as the balance on a poorly calibrated DJ deck!
Father’s Confusion About Producing
Now, here comes the kicker: Gert Verhulst, Viktor’s father, is rather baffled. “You say, ‘I’m making a record,’ but I don’t hear you on it, and I don’t see you on it,” he mused. This is the kind of heartwarming parental confusion we all know too well. For the love of all that is danceable, Gert! Do you think he is just sitting in a studio, twiddling knobs like it’s a vintage radio? It’s called DJing, not “Where’s Waldo?” The child is out there mixing beats, not painting portraits of himself to match the audio!
Viktor, with a smile wider than my waistband after Christmas, attempted to enlighten his dear old dad. He explained: “Yes, produce, hey, dad! You know how it works, right? When a singer makes a new song, he stops everything during his performance and tells the audience about the song.” And really, why shouldn’t he? It’s not like he’s physically turning into the track like some DJ Transformer! He’s figuring out how to connect with the crowd through his unique sound while spinning existing hits. Not a bad day’s work if you ask me!
In a world where everyone thinks they can be a DJ because they set up a playlist on Spotify, Viktor is carving out a niche. With more pulsating beats to follow and a father who may never understand the magic of mixing, one can only wonder if he’s destined for the big leagues or simply the family barbecue next summer.
So here’s to Viktor Verhulst: the DJ who’s proving that just because you can’t hear your dad’s confusion, doesn’t mean you’re not still making a record…even if your dad thinks it involves more than just hitting play.
