Norway’s Viktor Hovland was dominant and won the FedEx Cup on Sunday in Atlanta.
He got his hands on an impressive check for $18 million. His cumulative of 261 (-27) allowed him to edge American Xander Schauffele by five shots. The winner handed a card of 63 (-7) on his last lap at East Lake Golf Club.
It’s the second time in as many weeks that Hovland have triumphed. He won the BMW Championship and a $3.6 million purse last Sunday.
“It’s pretty surreal to be here right now and playing the best golf of my life in the last two weeks,” the 25-year-old athlete said in an interview with CBS Sports. It mightn’t have come at a better time.”
He is only the fourth player in PGA history to win back-to-back tournaments. The others are Tiger Woods (2007 and 2009), Billy Horschel (2014) and Patrick Cantlay (2021).
Hovland has always been at the top of the standings during the FedEx Cup. He shared the lead with American Collin Morikawa following two rounds, but separated from the rest of the field with a 66 (-4) performance on Saturday.
The winner had a six shot lead going into the final round. He also became the third youngest player in history to win the FedEx Cup.
Schauele, who pocketed $6.5 million by virtue of his second place finish, shot 62 (-8) on Sunday.
«Il [Hovland] played so well, he said following the competition. I haven’t done enough. I thought a 62 would get me closer to him, but I was never within three strikes. He was amazing. He putted big shots and he just played like a champ.”
