Another case, almost identical to today’s, happened at the end of May 2019, when neighbors surprised a man who entered a house and stole a bicycle in the Explanada del Carmen neighborhood, in San Cristobal de las Casas.
On that occasion, Sin Embargo reported that the man, supposedly Guatemalan, had his ankles tied, with socks and tennis shoes, and they hung him upside down in the basket of the basketball court for almost an hour. They then handed him over to the police.
