The Christ Child shines his glory long before Christmas Eve – in the streets, at punch stands. Things seem to be a little different with the Easter Bunny, apart from his chocolate-coated alter ego on the supermarket shelves. Anyone who would like to get in the mood for the celebration of the resurrection beyond the sweet search and find will find an invitation in the ARD TVthek: under the “Classic” section, the “Classic for Holy Week” series threads musical pearls. A trombonist and an accordion player make “Jesu, meine Freude” (BWV 227) shine within minutes.
JS Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Bavarian Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, Handel’s “Messiah” or Mahler’s “Resurrection Symphony” require more leisure.
