(PLO)- Vietnamese football (VN) has turned professional for 23 years, but the sustainability of the teams is always in a fragile state.
Making football methodically in the direction of true professionalism in Vietnam counts less than one hand. The rest is mistletoe thanks to a local favored sponsor who is responsible for raising the team.

For example, in December 2022, a team in the Central region with a high ranking in the V-League 2022 famously bought many players with a bribe, a very high salary, and sent an official letter to the provincial leaders asking for an extract from the local budget. or call for other funding sources to maintain the team’s operation because the past three seasons from 2020 to the end of 2022 have used more than 355 billion VND from sponsors. Or a Northern football team, following being assigned to a private company, creates a certain attraction and resonance, and at the same time, the locality also sends a dispatch to the City Council to propose a resolution to approve the financial support scheme and maintain and develop the home football team with the state budget with an estimated support of 50 billion VND/year.
Only through the above two ways of the two teams with high rankings in the V-League has shown that the way to do professional football in Vietnam is very strange and completely unprofessional. Because of its too much dependence on the state non-business units and the need for local intervention to “order” down for the team to have a source of operation.
It is similar to many V-League and First-class teams that were disbanded when the business support favored by the province was withdrawn, specifically the teams in the West gradually disappeared on the football map. Or recently, the Saigon Club and before that Than Quang Ninh was dissolved following a long time of difficult debt to pay salaries, reward players and self-death, for players to scatter to find work.
The V-League is still going great and the teams spend a lot of money when they can use the money of the person responsible for raising the team due to local favors. Very few football teams operate according to the professional model with a real youth line and have their own football field to operate.
Hopefully that fragile fragility will be gradually overcome by true professionalism instead of the grandeur of mistletoe spending other people’s money.
