It has been reported that Park Hang-seo (63), coach of the Vietnam national football team, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and is in quarantine.
On the 4th (local time), the Vietnamese daily Tuoi Tse reported that coach Park Hang-seo was infected with Corona 19 and is self-isolating.
The newspaper reported, “Director Park is in quarantine for the fifth day and his health is good.”
He also said that coach Park’s COVID-19 infection is bad news for Vietnam’s A team ahead of two matches in the 2022 Qatar World Cup final qualifiers and the Vietnam Under-23 (U-23) national team to compete in the 2022 Dubai Cup.
Although Vietnam failed to advance to the finals, they will face Oman and Qatar on the 24th (home) of the Asian final qualifying round, followed by their final match (away) with Japan on the 29th. Vietnam currently sits at the bottom of the 6 countries in Group B with 1 win and 7 losses (3 points).
The Vietnam U-23 national team will also participate in the 2022 U-23 Dubai Cup, an international friendly competition held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the 20th to the 30th with 10 countries participating.
Park currently serves as the commander of the Vietnam A and U-23 national teams, and is expected to step down as the commander of the U-23 national team following the Southeast Asian (SEA) game scheduled for May.
Tuoi-tze said, “While coach Park is under quarantine, he is having an online meeting with the coaches to prepare the A and U-23 national teams to call.”
Then he said, “Director Park is recovering quickly. His health is also very good. He will be released from quarantine and return to work as normal if he tests negative for COVID-19 within a few days,” the source said.
