The Boston Marathon includes the participation of some 30,000 competitors and has been held since 1897, as it was inspired by the success of the first such competition at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
Since then it has been organized every year except for 2020, when it was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
