According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in France, within the framework of the 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of cultural expression (Convention 2005) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Vietnam was elected to the position of Vice Chairman of the Commission, representing the Asia-Pacific region.

Ambassador Le Thi Hong Van, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, emphasized that this second time taking on this position “continues to demonstrate Vietnam’s increasing position and prestige in the international arena. see the support and trust of the international community for our ability to contribute and govern in global multilateral institutions, recognize our active contribution to UNESCO as well as in efforts to promote promote the role of culture and creativity for sustainable, inclusive and resilient development.”

Taking place from 7 to 10 February in Paris, the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2005 Convention took place with the participation of nearly 400 delegates and observers from 24 member states of the Commission and nearly 100 countries, international organizations and cultural and art organizations.

Attending on the Vietnamese side were the ambassador, head of the Vietnamese delegation to UNESCO, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese delegation actively and actively participated in all the contents of the meeting.

The member states of the 2005 Convention highly appreciate Vietnam’s policies and practical measures to promote the role of culture as an endogenous force and a driving force for sustainable development; protect and promote the diversity of cultural expressions in the cultural and creative contexts heavily affected by the pandemic and globalization and digitalisation.

Vietnam’s efforts to build the National Cultural Index for Sustainable Development and the Network creative city are also welcomed.

The Intergovernmental Committee for the 2005 Convention, consisting of 24 members, is UNESCO’s important administrative body for culture, responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention, proposing measures for its implementation, and providing international assistance in the implementation of the Convention. this area… for approval by the General Assembly of the Convention.

Conventions UNESCO on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was adopted on 20 October 2005 and has so far been ratified by 152 countries.

As one of the countries making efforts to participate in the drafting and early ratification process of the convention, Vietnam was elected for the first time and successfully assumed the role of Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee and Vice President of the General Assembly. The UNESCO Convention is for the period 2011-2015./.
