The American giant Apple announced Friday the launch next week of its first online store in Vietnam, thus continuing its conquest of emerging markets in Asia, following the opening of its first Apple Stores in India last month.
The apple brand is currently distributed via third-party sellers in the communist country, which represents a market of 100 million people, with a young and tech-savvy population.
Through the online store that will open on May 18, “Vietnamese customers can experience products and connect with our experienced experts,” Deirdre O’Brien, head of retail at Apple, said in a statement. “We are honored to expand in Vietnam,” she added.
Vietnam wants 85% of its adult population to have access to a smartphone by 2025, up from 73% currently. Less than a third of cellphone users own an iPhone, according to market research firm Statista.
Like other electronics giants such as Samsung or LG, Apple has chosen Vietnam for the assembly of its products. The production of accessories and the assembly of mobile phones accounts for up to 70% of the manufacturing of electronic products in the country.
The products are mainly for export. This activity represented last year a third of the total volume of import-export in Vietnam, or 114 billion dollars, according to official figures.
