The Vice-President of the Commission for Values and Transparency, Viera Jourovais visiting Athens on Monday, as part of the “democracy tour”, to several member states, ahead of the European elections.
General goal of the touraccording to the European Commission’s announcement, is to exchange views on how best to protect elections and strengthen the resilience of democracies to disinformation, information manipulation and external interference.
The vice president will also discuss issues related to Russia’s war once morest Ukraine and the rule of law.
Ms. Yourova’s contacts in Athens will begin with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, while later he will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis.
Ms. Yourova will then meet with the Media Working Group, which was set up by the Greek authorities to discuss the state of the mass media.
The vice president’s visit will conclude with roundtable discussions with law enforcement authorities on election integrity, key NGOs and experts in countering disinformation and protecting the pre-election information space.
