The city of Vienna wants to massively expand the pool infrastructure by 2030. More than 115 million euros are to be invested. This was announced by Vienna’s Vice Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) and the head of Municipal Department 44, Hubert Teubenbacher, at a press conference on Thursday. There was also an outlook for the coming season, which starts on Tuesday.

So you want to massively expand the infrastructure, emphasized Wiederkehr. A new indoor swimming pool is currently being built in the Großfeldsiedlungsbad. “However, the outdoor pool remains open as normal,” said the head of the baths, Teubenbacher. In addition, by the start of the summer holidays in 2023, Bad Brigittenau will also have a new outdoor pool. Teubenbacher also emphasized that they want to continue to focus on sustainability in the future. 17,000 square meters throughout Vienna are already being used for photovoltaic systems. “In the future, everything that is available will be used for solar panels,” said Teubenbacher.

According to Wiederkehr, there will also be a free animation program in the pools once more this year. “For example, it will be possible to learn volleyball or English,” said Wiederkehr. Tutoring in the pools will also be offered once more this season. “It’s easy to combine leisure time and learning,” says Wiederkehr. The summer swimming courses should also take place once more this season, it was said.

After the prices had remained constant for years, an increase had to be made on January 1st. A half-year ticket costs 147 euros this year at the 28 locations. According to Teubenbacher, children pay a tariff of 50.40 euros. The end of the summer season is planned for September 17th.
