Vienna/Graz (OTS) – The Donau City in Vienna’s 22nd district (Donaustadt) represents an architectural innovation in our capital. With the UNO City, modern skyscrapers and a river promenade on the New Danube, this district is a model example of contemporary urbanity. As one of Europe’s cultural epicenters, Vienna has been distinguished for centuries by its impressive architecture. The broad spectrum of architectural diversity ranges from magnificent Baroque buildings to Art Nouveau icons. But the city does not rest on its laurels and continues to impress with its groundbreaking contemporary architecture.

Viennese post-war architecture set new standards as early as the 1960s. The 1980s and 1990s produced architectural masterpieces such as the Hundertwasser House and the Vienna Gasometer. The new millennium brought regarding the city’s own new landmarks: the MuseumsQuartier and the Donau City.

The Donau City is located directly next to the Reichsbrücke on the left bank of the Danube. With a direct connection to the motorway network and just 20 minutes from the airport, Donau City has a first-class location. Once plagued by floods, the area around the New Danube was used as a garbage dump following the Danube was regulated in 1875. This was dissolved for the International Garden Show in 1964 and the Danube Park that was subsequently created is still preserved today. The plans for Expo 95 led to the paving of the Danube bank motorway, which laid the foundation for today’s development. The Donau City grew on this foundation and became a vibrant district of Vienna.

The Donau City boasts a number of architectural highlights. The Andromeda Tower, the first high-rise in Donau City, was built between 1996 and 1998. It was followed by the Mischek Tower and the Ares Tower, which shape the district’s skyline. Also impressive is the Neue Donau high-rise, which was considered the tallest residential building in Vienna before the DC Tower 1 grew to a height of 250 meters. Its green construction and sustainable concepts make DC Tower 1 a truly modern architectural wonder.

The Donau City is a constantly developing district. Projects like the DC Tower 2 and the Danube Flats promise to become further architectural highlights. As an up-and-coming second center beyond the Danube, which is intended to relieve pressure on Vienna’s city center, Donau City will continue to shape the modern face of Vienna and have a lasting influence on the city’s architecture.

Our journey through the architecture of the Donau City is an appreciation of Vienna’s innovative spirit and future orientation, but also of the know-how of the construction companies that are making the new district a showcase model of modern living and working, because no success is possible without high-quality specialist companies.
