The Vienna ÖVP calls for the discontinuation of the city’s free newspaper “Mein Wien”. Local councilor Laura Sachslehner pointed out to APA that according to media reports, the Court of Auditors is now criticizing the magazine. Saxlerner has previously personally condemned the fees. According to the ÖVP politician, responses to inquiries revealed that the newspaper has spent more than 39 million euros in recent years.

According to cursory reports, the Court of Auditors is also said to be criticizing My Vienna. “Spending 250,000 euros per issue, even 24 times a year, is incredibly bold for the city council purely on its own PR. The city council simply funds its own production and publishes a completely meaningless publication. Spending huge amounts of tax money,” Saxlerner said: “I demand that the magazine be shut down immediately.

She criticized that currently there is only “very manageable information content”. The newspaper is “another piece of the puzzle” in the city’s “opaque and questionable” media efforts.

“My Vienna” was published by the city and distributed to thousands of households. The magazine currently publishes 24 issues per year (12 issues per year until 2021) and has a volume of 24 pages. It describes the city’s projects and also contains information about leisure activities or events. While City Hall is responsible for content, printing and distribution are outsourced.
