Vienna (OTS/RK) – Today, Friday, Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig received the first Viennese Ski Jumping World Champion, Louis Obersteiner, in the arcaded courtyard of the town hall. Obersteiner won the gold medal in the team competition at the Junior World Championships in February. The athlete was accompanied by the club’s chairman, Florian Danner, as well as members of his ski jumping club, the Wiener Stadtadler, and his family. Vienna’s sports councilor Peter Hacker also attended the reception.
Mayor Ludwig once once more congratulated Obersteiner personally on his great success and extraordinary performance. As a special gift, the mayor of Vienna presented the 18-year-old from Donaustadt with a clock from the city of Vienna. “Ski jumping and Vienna are actually two areas that you wouldn’t automatically associate,” said Ludwig. But that was a misunderstanding, according to the Viennese city manager. The Vienna City Eagles have been doing a great job for years, the Mayor of Vienna explained. This has already brought national and international success.
City manager Michael Ludwig described Obersteiner as “a great role model for many young people who also have the goal of becoming a ski jumper”. For him it is “incomprehensible” when you look down on a ski jump. “I admire your courage,” said Ludwig in the direction of the numerous young athletes who had come to the reception. Ludwig reiterated his deep respect for Obersteiner’s performance and thanked the Wiener Stadtadler team. “I hope we can do something to further support them.”
Louis Obersteiner thanked him for the congratulations and expressed his pride at his numerous international successes. “I sacrificed a lot of time for this,” said the young athlete.
After the reception, the simulation ski jump set up in the arcaded courtyard of the Vienna City Hall was explained and demonstrated by a few young ski jumpers before the visitors got refreshments at the buffet.
