On March 1, 2022, the time had come: On this day, the short-term parking zone was extended to almost the whole of Vienna. 229,000 previously free public parking spaces in five outlying districts have become chargeable, almost doubling the parking zone. Since then, it has only been possible to park your car publicly for long periods of time free of charge on workdays in very few defined peripheral areas of the city. The previous patchwork solution with different parking sticker regulations for districts inside and outside the belt as well as the remaining free parking spaces was passé.
