Vienna sticks to stricter CoV rules

coronavirus

Even following the nationwide easing steps on March 5, the city of Vienna will stick to its stricter line in terms of CoV measures, said Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) on Tuesday. The 2G rule in the catering trade and the obligation to wear a mask in all trade are affected.

According to Ludwig, he hopes that the number of infections will stabilize in March – only then should the restrictions be lifted. That will probably be the case in April. Ludwig is still convinced that the government’s opening steps would come too early.

“I think that we will drop a lot very quickly that would protect us.” The number of patients in the normal wards is still high, and many health care workers are also absent due to corona infections. He is therefore “very skeptical” regarding the extensive simultaneous easing steps.

2G Plus remains mandatory in hospitals

Vienna will therefore remain with 2G in gastronomy for some time, emphasized Ludwig. As far as the opening of night gastronomy from March 5th is concerned, one can also prepare for 2G, according to a spokesman for the city. However, one is still waiting for the concrete regulation of the federal government.

The stricter mask requirement also remains in place – he does not see why the FFP2 mask should protect in public transport and supermarkets, but not elsewhere – “such as in shoe shops”. The population has now gotten used to wearing masks. The 2G Plus obligation in hospitals will also remain in place.

Current CoV numbers from Vienna

As of Tuesday, March 1, 2022, 568,424 positive tests have been confirmed in Vienna since the beginning of the pandemic. 488,384 people have recovered. The number of deaths related to the virus is 3,049, eight people have recently died. The federal capital currently has 76,991 active cases.
