A man was seriously injured after a fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building in Vienna’s Ottaklin on Friday evening. According to radio reports, the fire department responded at 8 p.m. and found a person who had fallen inside the apartment where the fire broke out. The man was removed from the building by a respiratory protection team. The man, about 50 years old, suffered second-degree burns, according to professional rescue services. He had to be intubated and ventilated and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses noticed smoke coming from the street and the stairwell of the Panikgasse building. The alerted fire department launched a fire-fighting operation using respiratory protection equipment in the apartment where the fire broke out and inspected the building. A man who fell into a burning apartment had to use a rescue bathtub to rescue him. After the flames were completely extinguished, the fire department cleared the building of smoke.
