Vienna Opera Ball 2024: Pure Excitement and Debutant Couples Compete for a Chance to Shine

Pure excitement among the numerous “Hopefully” debutant couples on Saturday in the Vienna State Opera. There was a big audition for the Vienna Opera Ball 2024 (on February 8, 2024) loaded.

For the 150 places, however, almost twice as many candidates dared to attempt the difficult left-hand waltz (In the left waltz, the third waltz step means crossing the feet – and not closing).

Including Maximilian Roseson of Falstaff editor Wolfgang Rosam. “I was a guest at the Opera Ball last year and went to school in England. And when all my classmates in London saw the photos, they were so envious of this tradition. It really only happens once in the world,” he said.

“Afterwards I was really proud and I would be really happy to be there. I hope that the many dance lessons will be worth it. I’m a bit nervous,” he said.

Together with Charlotte Reitbauerdaughter of the top restaurateurs Birgit and Heinz Reitbauer, he tried his luck at the opera ball. “I’ve been practicing since May and every time I do it I’m getting more confident, but of course I’m nervous. But the joy outweighs it,” says Charlotte.

Speaking of nervous, that was also a debutante who lost her shoe while turning, but was then able to quickly make up for it with an extra turn and an elegant curtsy.

“You can see that the couples are very well prepared. The standard is already very high. Of course, some come here and don’t make it, so unfortunately a certain level of rigor has to be shown,” said the choreographer Maria Santner.

Also Lorenz Reitbauer danced in front of him – actually at the request of his parents, as he revealed. “We’ve really practiced a lot of left waltz and hope that my partner Paula Rajkowski and I can convince the jury today!”, he wants to make his parents proud.

Which couples made it or unfortunately didn’t make it will be announced in mid-November.
