Vienna in violet for people with disabilities

Today is International Day of People with Disabilities. This will not go unnoticed in the city: a barrier-free service will take place in St. Stephen’s Cathedral at 12 noon. The façade of the Roßauer Kaserne is illuminated by purple-violet light in the evening.

The barrier-free service in St. Stephen’s Cathedral on Saturday should focus on people with disabilities. Blind, deaf, people with physical disabilities or Down’s syndrome, they all take part in the service together with auxiliary bishop Franz Scharl. From reading to intercession and making music.

The fair is musically accompanied by children and young people from a school-wide inclusive music project. For example, the texts of traditional Advent songs are signed. The entire service will be translated into sign language and streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Archdiocese of Vienna. The thought of the archdiocese behind it: People with limited mobility should also be able to participate.

Rossau barracks in purple-violet light

The army also wants to raise public awareness of people with disabilities. The facade of the barracks on the Roßauer Lände will therefore glow in purple-violet light in the evening. More than a quarter of the army’s employees with disabilities are employed in Vienna. The light action is part of the worldwide campaign “Purple Light up”. It is intended to set a visible sign for people with disabilities around the world today.
