Vienna Capitals: Rok Tičar, Trevor Cheek, and Dominic Hackl Lead the Charge to Victory

Center forward Rok Tičar returns to Klagenfurt as the Vienna Capitals’ current top scorer (eight goals, 21 assists), where he was an important part of the last championship team (2020/21). The Slovenian played 180 competitive games for the EC-KAC, in which he scored 159 points (54 hits, 105 assists) on his individual account. Vienna’s by far most successful goalscorer played at his side for much of the season so far: Trevor Cheek has already scored 17 goals, a value that is currently only bettered by two players in the league, Steven Owre and Graham Knott. The American also contributed two goals to the Capitals’ most recent 3-2 overtime win in Graz. In defense, Vienna relies primarily on local personnel; the only two import players in defense, Evan Wardley and Seamus Donohue, were only signed in November and December respectively. Among the Austrian defenders, alongside the established league and national team great Dominique Heinrich, home-grown players stand out Dominic Hackl out: Last year a viral illness ended his season prematurely, and this year he didn’t really get into the action until mid-October due to an injury. Since then, he has established himself as a key pillar in the Kagraners’ backline; in the most recent win over the 99ers, he achieved an exceptionally high (by European standards) time-on-ice of 28:36 minutes.
