Wieler: Half of the Covid intensive care patients over 70 years old

STORY: Note: This post will be sent to you with no narration. O-Ton Lothar Wieler, RKI President: “The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients has increased in the last few weeks, especially of course because the incidences in the older age groups have increased. At the moment there are still over 2000 Covid patients treated in intensive care units. And these numbers are hardly or only very slowly decreasing. Almost half of those in intensive care units are over 70 years old. In the last four weeks, more than 4200 people have died in connection with the Covid-19 infection More than 1000 deaths per week are currently being transmitted to the RKI. This means that far too many people are still seriously ill with Covid and too many people are still dying of this disease. And many are still suffering from it People Long-term consequences of Covid These are adults, young people, but also children can be affected by long-term health consequences, i.e. by the so-called nt Long Covid. According to the current state of knowledge, a significant proportion of adults are affected by Covid symptoms following a previous Sars-Cov-2 infection. Children and adolescents appear to be less affected. However, the data situation here is still limited. Vaccination is and remains the best and safest route to immunity. The well-known vaccination reactions are significantly less pronounced in comparison to the consequences of an infection. The vaccination not only protects us from serious illnesses and death, but also from Long Covid. In doing so, we not only protect ourselves, but also all people with whom we come into contact and thus also all people who are important to us.”
