I liked what I was doing, it was a good business, a good job, but I don’t want there to be any handling of cash anymore. Not even ten euros, nothing. Only credit cards”, he says.
Break-ins and robberies in small businesses jumped 15% last year. Bakeries, but also tobacconists in which cash circulates a lot, are particularly affected. In the Nantes region, the TF1 newscast had also met tobacconists, victims of ramming cars six months ago. At the end of their tether, they confided their dismay. “It’s super hard”, admitted one of them. While the inhabitants themselves are worried regarding their local businesses. “In rural areas, that’s going to be it. If businesses are attacked all the time and permanently, they will all close”, complains a local resident.
