The instrument will orbit approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
The European Space Agency (ESA) published a video last week that shows how the James Webb space telescope separates from the Ariane 5 rocket and its solar panel unfolds.
The video shows the view from the upper stage of Ariane 5, taken by a camera made by the Irish company Réaltra Space Systems Engineering.
The James Webb telescope was thrown out into space on December 25th. Thanks to the highly precise launch trajectory of the rocket, the instrument’s solar panel was able to deploy shortly following the Ariane 5 separated, capturing sunlight to power the mechanism.
According media, it is the last recording in which the telescope can be seen clearly, since the James Webb won’t be close enough to Earth so that astronauts can serve it and it will orbit approximately 1.5 million kilometers from the planet.
