VIDEO – Tesla’s self-driving software…

Since January 17, 2023, Tesla so deploy the beta software version 10.9 of its FSD program (Full Self Driving) 100% autonomous driving. This device is actually a advanced version of Autopilot which is also able to recognize traffic lights and signs.

This new variant does not bring no revolution, but a series of minor improvements, such as a more natural – and therefore less brutal – initiation of turns. Naturally, owners with this feature were quick to share their experience on the web and, among them, many youtubers.

Progress, but also recurring problems

He is surprising to see the FSD operation which nevertheless works wonders, especially in its recognition and its assessment of the environment including parked cars and pedestrians. In addition, the recognition of signs has been significantly improved, because in the video, Tony, the youtuber, notices that the car stops now to some intersections marked with a stop sign whereas this was not the case previously. Not very reassuring – see 10 min on the video.

That said, however, there remains a lot of problems to solve. As when the car stops behind a vehicle in double file. Obviously, the system does not understand and picks up, forcing the driver to regain control. In addition, the Tesla of the test encounters some problems with the red lights. It stops in particular in the middle of the road, the scanner having spotted a light, but which does not address the vehicle’s traffic lane. Another problem detected (see at 14 min and 20 sec in the video): errors in the engagement of the car on the traffic lanes which are not and where the car narrowly misses picking up a series of sign posts.

D’other testimonials remain impressive despite everything as on the LinkedIn post below. That said, even if the sequence is accelerated, we see that the driver is not really comfortable to let his Tesla graze people… Because he probably realizes it: there is still work to be done before arriving at the autonomous car…
