The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, requested Hidroelectrica to speed up the works at the Pašcani hydropower plant, Iaşi County, where the works started in 1985. More than 400 million lei have been invested here and 60 million more are needed euros and 30 million lei for the expropriation of a land area of over 2,000 hectares, reports News.ro.

- “I am today at the construction of the Hidroenergetica in Paşcani, another project started before 1989, in the year of grace 1985. The project here, this reservoir in the making, is at a degree of completion of 80 percent, it will have a capacity of 68 million cubic meters of water. They are near the Siret river and here will be the hydroelectric power plant of approximately 10 megawatts installed and it is at a stage of 80 percent”, declared Sebastian Burduja.
The Minister of Energy also referred to the amounts spent so far, but also to those to be spent.
- “From 1985 until today, the Romanian state has spent around 400 million lei here. In order to complete this work, we still need regarding 60 million euros, plus approximately 30 million lei for the expropriation of these lands. We are talking regarding an area of 2,300 hectares. If everything goes according to plan, we will manage in a few months, until the middle of next year, to expropriate what was not possible for decades, these over 2000 hectares, and in the first half of 2026 the entire work would it has to be ready,” said Burduja.
According to the minister, the investment will mean the production of green energy, but also the reduction of flood risks.
- “The entire work can be completed in the 2nd quarter of 2026 and will mean green energy production, the reduction of flood risks, drinking water for Pašcani and neighboring towns, irrigation water for Iaşi and Neamţ counties,” Sebastian Burduja wrote on Facebook.
