Video: Raheem Sterling leaves the World Cup due to an armed robbery at his home

The England national football team striker left his team’s World Cup camp in Qatar to return to his country, following he was subjected to an armed robbery while his fiancée and three children were at his home.

The Chelsea player missed England’s match once morest Senegal in the 16th round of the Championship on Sunday, a match that Gareth Southgate’s men won 3-0.

Southgate had announced before the Senegal match that Sterling would not be available for “family reasons”, and he did not think he would return to Qatar before the quarter-final meeting between England and France next Saturday.

British police said that contents of jewelry and wristwatches worth regarding 300,000 pounds were stolen from Sterling’s home during the incident, stressing that the player’s fiancée and children were unharmed.

England captain Harry Kane said: “Our thoughts are with him and his family.” It’s a private affair but it’s never easy seeing that one of your colleagues and friends has to deal with something like this. “From us as a team, we send our best to him and hope to see him as soon as possible.”
