VIDEO | Peter Castle | What arguments did the judge give to dictate preventive detention to Bruno Pacheco and the president’s nephews? | The question of the day | POLITICS

The Judiciary imposed 36 months of preventive detention to a total of seven investigated for the Puente Tarata Case, also known as the Provías Case. Among them are two nephews of President Pedro Castillo, Fray Vásquez Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo Gómez, and the former secretary of the Presidential Office Bruno Pacheco.

To make this decision, the preliminary investigation judge Manuel Chuyo evaluated the evidence provided by the prosecution that results in strong indications that the persons under investigation would be involved in the crimes they are accused of. In this case, the Public Ministry is investigating all of them for the alleged commission of the crime of aggravated collusion in a criminal organization.

As it is a preventive detention, the other key aspect is the so-called procedural risk. There the magistrate analyzes if there is risk that the defendants escape and evade investigations and justice; as well as if there is a danger that they will hinder the actions of the Public Ministry or the Judiciary itself.

In the case of those under investigation, the judge found both a high level of suspicion in the investigations and the risk that they would escape justice. Therefore, he imposed this measure for the seven, among them the still fugitives Bruno Pacheco, Fray Vásquez Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo Gómez.
