Authorities reported this Wednesday, March 20, that through a raid carried out by anti-narcotics police from the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Public Ministry in the village of San Ramón, La Montaña, La Libertad, Huehuetenango, they captured Mauro “L”, alias “Lupillo”.
The captured person is accused of the crimes of illicit association, aggravated robbery, murder and kidnapping or kidnapping, according to the arrest warrant once morest him.
The PNC highlighted that there are 37 arrests of the 100 most wanted in Guatemala, this being the first of 2024.
The detainee is an alleged member of the Guayo Cano criminal structure.
“I have good news for you: We captured the most wanted man in the country,” Interior Minister Francisco Jiménez wrote on social network X.
“13 years ago, 8 police officers were (supposedly) murdered by alias “Lupillo and a few hours ago we captured him in Huehuetenango,” he stated.
Guayo Cano was sentenced in 2018 to 372 years in prison for the Salcajá massacre, Quetzaltenango, where nine PNC agents died in an attack on a substation.
In a video shared by the Ministry of the Interior you can see the moment of the capture of alias “Lupillo”.
Armed forces entered private property, where the detainee with a weapon in hand threatened the agents.
