This Saturday, February 24, Michèle Laroque was invited on the set of the show What a time! broadcast on France 2. The 63-year-old actress attended in particular reading extracts from the book Letters of love and war, by authors Viktoriya and Pavlo Matyusha, two Ukrainian couples who were separated during the conflict and who chose to write to each other to keep the link, despite the difficulty. Visibly very moved by the words that the lovers respectively sent to each other to hold on during the invasion of Russia, Pierre Palmade’s friend then revealed that these passages from the book read on set made her think of “the story of [s]”mother”.
Michèle Laroque gave some explanations as to why these letters echo her family past. “My mother escaped at the age of 23 from Romania and she was one of the first girls to escape. She escaped to London, she had to stay for a year in London because she was a political refugee there. She had known my father who came following a year.” developed the actress, who recognizes that hearing strong testimonies like those published in the Ukrainian couple’s book “resounds” in her. Poignantly, Michèle Laroque said she was doing her best to help her mother overcome her mental wounds and painful memories: “I’m always trying to cheer my mother up because […] To be [une ancienne photo d’elle est dévoilée sur le grand écran de l’émission, NDLR]she seems to be doing well, but she is in a lot of pain because she was very courageous but the trauma is still there.”

A mother surely very touched by the show
The one who will star in the film Karaoke by Stéphane Ben Lahcene, from March 20 in the cinema, alongside Claudia Tagb, then added, with emotion: “And when what’s happening in Ukraine happens… She’s going to look at you, see you tomorrow [lors de la diffusion télévisée de l’émission de France 2, NDLR]. And I know it’s very complicated [pour elle de voir des témoignages de réfugiés de guerre ayant eu un parcours semblable au sien, du moins tout aussi bouleversant]”.Questioned regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict itself, the two authors of the book then assured that for them, Vladimir Poutine “already lost” the fight, not necessarily geographically or from a territorial point of view, but rather from a psychological point of view since, according to their statements, the Russian president has not managed to “get into the head” of the population of Zelensky to implement his ideas on the Ukrainian problem.
