The North American team already caused a surprise by reaching the top four in its first Copa America, but the South American rival didn’t even give it a chance. Julian Alvarez took the lead in the 22nd minute, and Lionel Messi also scored following the break.
This was the world star’s 109th goal in the national team, and only the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo with 130 goals is ahead of him in the all-time ranking. Messi scored for the 14th time at the Copa America, the fifth most in the tournament’s history.
On the other side, Uruguay and Colombia will meet in Charlotte on Thursday morning Hungarian time. The final will be held on Sunday in Miami.
