“I drove 247 races for my fatherland, there will be a few for my motherland.” Marcel Hirscher commented on his planned comeback in a video message (below).
“It’s true, I will try to be there once more,” said the 35-year-old, referring to the sporting demands of the Ski World Cup.
“I was often asked: Marcel, why are you doing that once more? Because the joy of skiing has never been gone,” reports the Salzburg native following a five-year break in which – as he says – he felt like every time he went skiing, “felt like home”.

The choice to start in the Netherlands, his mother’s country of birth, was sometimes purely practical. “I think it is much easier for the Dutch association to implement the project. I also didn’t want to take any resources or starting places away from the boys. The future belongs to the boys and not to me at 35.”
He held out the prospect of a possible training partnership with Lucas Braathen.
