Cyclone Batsirai caused severe damage in Madagascar on Sunday. The authorities have so far reported at least ten dead and many destroyed buildings. In many regions, like here in the city of Fianarantsoa, roads were flooded and there were power outages. “Batsirai” hit the east coast of Madagascar late on Saturday evening with heavy rain and wind speeds of 165 kilometers per hour. According to initial estimates, the hurricane might have displaced up to 150,000 people. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief has sent a first team to Madagascar to coordinate aid.
