VIDEO. Make your own beer at La Saint-Pierre brewery

The craft brewery La Saint-Pierre located in the Alsatian town of the same name offers one-day brewing workshops. Each trainee will produce a beer to his liking. This course allows you to learn more regarding the techniques, ingredients and history of this popular drink.

Many customers appreciate the beers of the craft brewery of Saint-Pierre in the Lower Rhine. To respond to consumer curiosity regarding manufacturing secrets, the small company offers brewing workshops. For Cédric Rodenmacher, master brewer for 10 years: “there is no better publicity than to show how it works, we work with natural ingredients and the methods are ancestral”. In 2017, there was one workshop per month, today there are six.

During the session, the trainees follow the instructions of an inexhaustible facilitator on brewing techniques, ingredients but also on the history of beer. At the end of a busy day, the participants made the wort of the beer of their choice. It is the result of the brewing work. Malted barley infused in hot water, the mixture is stirred constantly. After filtration and dilution, hops are added following a specific protocol. The last stages of fermentation and bottling are carried out by the brewers. It takes five weeks to recover the 18 liters packaged in personalized bottles.

It is word of mouth that ensures the sustainability of brewing workshops. The formula works well. The proof: count three months of waiting to book an internship.
