Now call it EA Sports Football Club, or EAFC. The essential football video game, FIFA, published by Electronic Arts, will officially disappear next September to make way for its little brother, partly unveiled on Monday July 10. Rest assured, nothing really changes apart from the name.

Present since the 2021 edition on the cover of the game, Kylian Mbappé is the big absentee from this first version, named EAFC 24. The PSG striker is replaced by a trio made up of Erling Haaland, Vinicius Junior and Sam Kerr. The “ultimate” edition of the game will offer a group photo as a cover. And there too, Mbappé does not appear there. Only Marquinhos represents PSG there.

After 30 years of presence in the video game world, the name FIFA disappears from the circuit. The onerous contract linking the video game giant, Electronic Arts, to the International Football Federation is indeed coming to an end this year. From FIFA International Soccer, released in 1993, to FIFA 23, 30 years of history are coming to an end for virtual football fans. But the name FIFA might quickly return elsewhere.
