Video Games: 1 in 3 PS5 players had never played on a Playstation 4 console

This is a rather surprising figure, which might mean that Sony would have grabbed the players from Microsoft’s side, since the release of the next generation consoles. Indeed, the Q3 2022 financial results report reveals that around 30% of gamers and gamers with a PS5 had never played (read “did not own”) on the previous generation of Sony consoles, the Playstation 4 in this case.

PS5: and with “if”?

In terms of sales figures, Sony has confirmed that it has sold 32.1 million PS5 units as of December 31, 2022. A lower figure than that of its predecessor. Because the PS4 had reached, at the same stage of life, 37.7 million users. However, we can reasonably think that, without the shortages (which persist today, still…), the new generation machine would certainly have done better than the Playstation 4. It will also be interesting to note the number of sales at December 31, 2023, if the breaks finally end.

Something that should be on the right track, if we rely on recent communications from Sony on the subject. Especially since with the release, in a few days, of the new virtual reality headset, intended for the PS5, demand will still have to explode…
