NEW YORK | They are as high as three apples, colorful and absolutely crunchy. And they’re back for a fourth adventure, following a whole decade away. The newspaper tracked the Pikmins to a commercial loft in the Big Apple last month to get to know them better.
Do you know the Pikmines? These colorful little creatures with plant-like features are as adorable as they are helpful and docile. Their main mission is to obey their master to accomplish different tasks of transporting materials, destroying barriers and neutralizing enemies.
There are also several varieties, their color determining the abilities of each of them. Blue Pikmins, for example, are adept in water, while yellow ones are able to tolerate – and ward off – electricity and pink ones are equipped with wings for flight.

The introduction here is fluid, instinctive and frankly pleasant for those who have never taken command of an army of Pikmins, without becoming mind-numbing for scholars in the field. In short, it is a particularly inviting universe for anyone taking their first steps there.
Novelties
Both novices and experts will therefore discover new allies here: first the dog Otchin, a bipedal companion of invaluable help, capable of lugging a horde of Pikmins as well as biting, jumping, swimming or even rushing towards different enemies or surfaces to damage them. The player can also switch between Otchin and his explorer character to reach different areas and vary his strategic approaches.
Another addition for this fourth installment? Pikmins now come – and grow – in new hues and varieties, with Ice Pikmins and Glow Pikmins adding to the stable of critters. The first will freeze enemies and liquid surfaces, while the second can light the way during night expeditions. Because, yes, this time, the player will be able to leave the comfort of his ship to explore the surroundings from dusk until dawn.
But the piece de resistance of all these novelties remains the Dandori duels, a game mode during which the hero will have to face an opponent – controlled by artificial intelligence or a second player – in a treasure hunt. The goal: to collect as many treasures as possible in a few minutes…even if it means stealing those of your opponent.
The Pikmins are therefore well and truly back. And they seem to be in remarkable shape, according to what The newspaper. We will have to wait until July 21 to go on a mission with Pikmin 4but the most impatient can already get their hands on a free demo that has been available for a few days.
