A special exhibition in the Hallein Celtic Museum shows images from the city archives in combination with quotes from the book “Halleiner Originale”.
What do Sepp Schörghofer, who was out and regarding in just a shirt, shorts and barefoot in all weather conditions, and Donkey Seppei, who collected leftover food from the inns almost every day with his donkey cart, have in common? They are both people on the fringes of society, they are both “Hallein originals”. And they both find themselves in the Celtic Museum alongside 15 other curious and friendly people from Hallein. The reason is the new exhibition “Halleiner Originale”, which refers to the recently published book by Helga Springer. “Helga Springer has been with our museum for over ten years. Unfortunately, she died in September of this year at the age of 90. The original Halle native was able to witness the presentation of her book, but unfortunately not our exhibition,” says museum director Florian Knopp.
The exhibition, which can be seen from November 18, 2023 to March 3, 2024, presents anecdotes and biographical information regarding the lives of various personalities that should remain in the city’s memory. Although many of the people described have been part of Hallein’s cityscape for a long time, most Hallein residents know little or nothing regarding their personal history or career. Helga Springer followed these stories in her book. “She wanted to give an image of people who are present in the cityscape and society. The book thus became a monument to people on the fringes of society,” says the museum director. One of these “Hallein originals” is Helga Springer herself, to whom the Celtic Museum has dedicated a display case. Without being intrusive, this exhibition takes a deep look into the personal careers of a few prominent Hallein residents.
