Steenokkerzeel/KortenbergThe three burglars who ended up in the front garden of an apartment building on Friday evening on the corner of Kortenbergsesteenweg and Blockmansstraat in Steenokkerzeel are linked to facts in Kortenberg and Herent. The safe that was found was said to have been stolen from a home in Kortenberg. Two men were arrested, the third is still missing. Surveillance footage shows one of them trying in vain to flee.
On Friday evening, a Volvo with Dutch license plates ended up in the front yard of an apartment building on the corner of Kortenbergsesteenweg and Blockmansstraat in Steenokkerzeel. The occupants had previously fled when officers wanted to check the car. A neighbor across the street heard and saw everything happening and went following the burglars. “When they wanted to jump over the fence of a garden, they left a safe behind,” says the neighbor. “He was later taken away by officers. Eventually, several neighbors joined the police in a search for the thieves. One was hiding in an apartment building, another in a garden.”
Hidden in house
Kastze police zone already confirmed on Friday evening that two burglars were arrested. They both have Albanian nationality. A third managed to escape, despite the deployment of a police helicopter. He was still missing on Saturday. “Meanwhile, it appears that the perpetrators can be linked to facts in Kortenberg and Herent,” says Filip Van Steenbergen, chief of police of the Kastze police zone. “For example, the safe in a house in Kortenberg would have been stolen. Other parts of the loot were also recovered.” These included watches and a Louis Vuitton handbag.
The investigation is in the hands of the Leuven public prosecutor’s office.
