The tree was planted in 1916 “to permanently commemorate the World War”. It had to go due to renovation work.
For 107 years it has stood next to the Archdiocese’s Borromäum private high school: the linden tree had to go because of the extensive renovation work. However, the diocese decided to preserve the historic tree at a different location. The tree care company Radauer was commissioned to move the linden tree. The transplant has been in preparation since the beginning of the week, says company boss Josef Radauer. The lime tree was raised with a steel support system, the roots were sealed to prevent drying out.
