The Norfolk Police have reported this Friday the unexpected explosion of a 250-kilogram World War II bomb in the British town of Great Yarmouth, on the Norfolk coast, United Kingdom.
The Norfolk Police have confirmed this Friday through a message on Twitter that it was an unplanned detonation and that it occurred during the work of disarming the explosives. “All Army and emergency services personnel are located,” she added.
The images of the explosion have been captured by a Norfolk Police drone and shared on the aforementioned social network.
The authorities have confirmed the reopening of the roads near the scene of the incident and give the green light for people to return to their homes while the Southtown Road remains closed due to investigation work to assess the damage.
The British authorities reported on Tuesday the discovery of a large unexploded device located at a river crossing in the town of Great Yarmuth, and they were working on its deactivation.
The Army specialists had tried to detonate the bomb in a controlled manner through a technique that causes slow combustion of the explosives and burns that material.
