“Victory or martyrdom”: Hamas leaders do not want to leave Gaza voluntarily

“It’s either victory or martyrdom,” a Hamas source in Beirut said on Wednesday. Gaza is their country and the blood of the leaders is no more valuable than that of the people. One of the Israeli military’s most important war goals is to track down Hamas leaders in the coastal area.

More than 100 days following the start of the Gaza war following the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, which left 1,200 dead, some terrorist militia leaders are still in the Gaza Strip. They are suspected to be in the huge underground tunnel network under the sealed-off coastal strip. This represents an enormous challenge for the Israeli armed forces. The army’s focus is primarily on Jihia al-Sinwar, who serves as Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip.

Against the two-state solution

Meanwhile, the terrorist organization reiterated that it rejects a two-state solution. The solution is to get rid of the occupation, said former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, according to a statement. “Our Palestinian people demand liberation, freedom from occupation, independence and the establishment of a Palestinian state.” The existence of Israel is “categorically” acknowledged.

The two-state solution means that Israel and an independent, democratic Palestinian state live peacefully side by side. It has always been seen as a solution to the long-simmering conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken once once more advocated for a two-state solution. However, at least for now it is considered unrealistic.
