After the once again successful Match Day Festival and family day, Loki played a special match against Zalaegerszeg in the Nagyerdei Stadium on Saturday, since the previous coach, Srdjan Blagojevic, is no longer there, and the new coach, Csaba Máté, has not yet sat on the bench, Tibor Dombi and directed by his staff. Although several players had minor or major injuries, everyone except Erik Kusnyir and Thor Úlfarsson, who were rehabilitating, got a place in the squad. The starting team, which had 8 Hungarian players in its ranks, included Bence Batik, who made his Loki debut, as well as Soma Szuhodovszki and Márk Szécsi, as well as Donát Bárány, who was returning from injury.
The meeting was led by festive moments. It has been a quarter of a century since DVSC won its first major trophy, the Hungarian Cup. In 1999, the cup final against Tatabánya in Váco, won 2-1, was attended by 12,000 fans, most of them from Debrecen, who created an amazing atmosphere. Loki’s heroes from 25 years ago were greeted by our club leaders before the match, the kick-off was performed on behalf of the team by our legendary footballers, multiple champion and cup winner Zoltán Böőr and Zsolt Vadicska, who scored the winning goal in the final. After playing his 50th league match for DVSC, our Montenegrin defender, Meldin Dreskovic, was also greeted before the match.
At the beginning of the match, DVSC quickly took control, in the 2nd minute Arandjel Stojkovic’s shot was caught by the ZTE goalkeeper. In the 5th minute, however, the guests took the lead, after a headed ball, Dénes shot under the crossbar from the height of the 5th (0-1). In the 13th minute, Dénes was in danger again, he headed wide from close range, then home attacks followed, but no major situation developed.
Even after the drink break, Loki dominated the field. In the 29th minute, after Balázs Dzudsák’s shot, the goalkeeper could only hit the ball, but the rebound failed to be converted. In the 37th minute, Gundel-Takács brilliantly saved Bence Batik’s header, and in the 39th minute, he did the same with Márk Szécsi’s bomb. Before the break, ZTE was under a lot of pressure, but it remained 0-1 until the break.
At the beginning of the second half, we had a great advantage, while ZTE scored a late goal. In the 50th minute, after Dusan Lagator’s long bomb, the ball went off the post. Then came the equalizer in the 54th minute: Donát Bárány was tackled inside the 16, Balázs Dzudzsák confidently sold the rightful 11 (1-1).
In the continuation, in the 56th minute, Tamás Szűcs’ shot barely missed the goal, and then came more Loki attacks. And the leadership came too! In the 65th minute, Balázs Dzudzsák gave a great ball to the starting János Ferenczi, who tamed the play and then shot into the goal from about 7 meters (2-1).
In the beginning, DVSC could have scored more goals, and finally scored one in the 96th minute. After another great pass by Balázs Dzudzsák, Brandon Domingues, who came on as a substitute, tricked everyone and then took advantage of the rebound (3-1). Loki won a memorable and beautiful victory, continuation in two weeks in the cup in Békéscsaba.
With a master’s eye
Tibor Dombi: We didn’t play badly in the first half either, maybe we were a little overexcited. The scored goal was not part of the game, but the equalizer came after the break, the opponent was a little broken, and we came up. I expected a dynamic game, and I got that, we gave everything we had.
Gábor Márton: I congratulate Debrecen on the victory.
