The victory went to the Nuggets (110-105) and the Serbian Nikola Jokic was a hit with 42 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists, but even if he missed a lot of shots (9/29 including 2/11 three-pointers ), Wemby once once more impressed with his versatility.
There have only been four quadruple doubles in NBA history to date and they were the work of Nate Thurmond, Alvin Roberston, Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson, the last one on February 17, 1994. These might only be recorded from the 1973-74 season, which explains, for example, that Wilt Chamberlain is not in the list.
“It was difficult. I’m tired at the moment, difficult to think, but we had a good performance,” said Victor Wembanyama. “He managed 600 blocks this evening but we won,” said Nikola Jokic.
Wemby’s teammate, Tre Jones was in awe of what he had just witnessed:
“These non-American players are taking over like everyone says. But it’s really cool to see how the game is going. You have Jokic, obviously. He’s 2.13m, one of the best passers in the world , who brings the ball up. And then you have Victor who brings the ball up too. It’s just a whole different era of basketball we’re in now. It’s really crazy to see 7-foot players handling the ball like that .”
Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama might come face to face at the Olympic Games and in the FIBA context, to see who will be the most decisive.
