Victor Oladipo Trade: Thunder Reunion and Financial Relief for Miami Heat

2023-07-01 12:26:00

Still injured for many months, Victor Oladipo will not resume competition with the Heat but with the Thunder. The two franchises reached a deal last night to send the combo guard to Oklahoma. A return to the past for Toto.

Injured in the knee during the Playoffs, and probably absent for a while, Victor Oladipo had quite logically activated his player option to stay in Miami for another year. Unfortunately for him, the South Beach franchise obviously had other needs and Pat Riley decided to send his now ex-player to OKC. According to Adrian Wojnarowski ofESPN, the Thunder will absorb the player’s entire contract without sending any consideration. Enough to help Miami relieve its finances while OKC still recovers one or more Draft rounds (the details have not been specified).

Oklahoma City is acquiring Victor Oladipo and draft compensation to absorb his $9.45 million expiring contract, sources tell ESPN. Miami creates a trade exception of $9.45M with the deal.

On the side of OKC, we recover a valued veteran whose contract does not really endanger the finances of the team in the long term (he only has one year left). If retained, Dipo might be an interesting addition to the youth of the Thunder, a franchise he knows well since he already defended the colors of the team from 2016 to 2017.

For the Heat, the interest is mainly financial because South Beach must watch its money so as not to be sanctioned by the new CBA rules. The franchise also recovers an exception trade of approximately 10 million which might prove useful in the context of an upcoming trade.

Miami has for the moment signed Kevin Love and Josh Richardson but has also seen Gabe Vincent, Victor Oladipo and soon Max Strus leave. In addition, the recruitment of a star always seems to be at the center of the news in Florida, with potentially James Harden or Damian Lillard in the viewfinder. Wait and see.
